Equivalent of wealth, 2019
Exhibition at NEVERNEVERLAND, Amsterdam.

This solo-exhibition displayed a group of sculptures and installations that collectively imagine an 'Equivalent of wealth'. Manufactured materials that are meant to represent wealth are the main subject in the four exhibited works. Those materials are mass produced, lack individual qualities and are solely attributed to functional purposes. “They are wealthy only in their appearance and anonymous in their identity, but their value lies precisely within that inconspicuous, serving, idealistic nature.”*

The exhibitionspace is enclosed in the site-specific, room-filling intervention 'Vitrine'. The work consists out of seven large transparent acrylic constructions that are placed in the niches of the windows. 'The acrylic materials remain inactive, their perspex-protective foils are not removed and thus separates the exhibition from the public domain.

UNILIN is an installation of three identical sculptures presented on Perspex pedestals. Constructed out of thin layers of chipboard panels, that just like the standard factory made one that refer to wood, these refer to themselves as chipboard. Their edges expose their true nature - the ornamental cascading layers inviting to look at the construction itself. Both the pedestals and sculptures have similar volumes, making the subject (sculpture) and presentation (pedestal) equally important.

As part of the exhibition Vincent Knopper invited visual artist Lisa Sudhibhasilp to think and talk about the exhibition and related subjects such as democratic materiality and discarded packaging. This was developed into an visual conversation that was presented at the exhibitionvenue.
