Kunstfort Kasus, 2019
residency at Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen

Kunstfort Kasus is a year-long residency project initiated by Vincent Knopper and developed together with Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen. The location and architecture function as a case study: it has been the topic of investigation and the place for experiment and development of site-specific works. The main research topic of the project was the physical and conceptual transformation from a heritage defense-structure to a public domain, as an art institute.

Divided in three chapters during the year; Vincent Knopper created physical and material interventions that changed the use and functionality of the fortress. His works mimic structures such as fences, pathways and merchandise and then are erected as sculptures. They are spatial and material interventions that could function as sculptural documentation.

To conclude, a final presentation took place to reflect on the residency, but also to think of future scenario's. Knopper invited three guests, Arnoud en Michiel de Cleene and Hein van Duppen, to talk about the work, their practices and the future use of parkinggarages.
After the residency five sculptures have been permanently installed on the Kunstfort site. For more information about the project visit the Kunstfort website here.
